I needed a pair of reasonably good, in-wall speakers to put in the soffit area above my kitchen cabinets and attach to my 7.1 home theater system as a second zone in lieu of rear surrounds. Since I'll mainly be piping music through the kitchen speakers, my inclination was to get some 6.5" in-wall JBLs to match the rest of my home theater speakers - all JBLs.
The small size and price ($37/pair) of these Acoustic Audio iC5's enticed me to buy them instead of the larger and more expensive JBLs, even though I didn't see anything regarding frequency response in the specs portion of the Amazon listing for the iC5's... and that made me a bit uneasy. As it turns out, the frequency response of the iC5 is 50Hz-15kHz, so they don't have as much range as, say, the slightly larger JBL SP6CII 2-way, Round 6.5" In-Ceiling Speaker with Swivel Mount Tweeter (Pair) or JBL SP6CSII Round 6.5 Inch Stereo Dual-Tweeter In-Ceiling Speaker, both of which have a range of 40Hz-20kHz... along with a considerably larger price tag.
The Acoustic Audio iC5 isn't "tinny" sounding by any means... but if you are looking for speakers that have a strong bass presence, these probably aren't your best bet. However, Acoustic Audio iC6 320 Watt Pair 6.5" In-Wall/Ceiling Home Speakers have a frequency response of 40Hz-15kHz which, for those of us older folks who no longer hear sounds above the 15kHz level anyway, should give JBL a run for its (er, our) money.
