Acoustic Research AWD210 Wireless Digital Stereo Headphones Review

Acoustic Research AWD210 Wireless Digital Stereo Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have now purchases 3 sets of the AWD210 headphones and 2 out of 3 have eventually broken at the left ear piece swivel joint (where the wires go through) under normal usage! I read another review from a guy who said that his headphones broke at the same location. Also, 1 of the 3 sets did not always go into charge mode and completely charge the batteries reliably every time and I only get an hour or so before they'd shut off. I tried to communicate with Acoustic Research Customer Service about the weak swivel joint plastic problem but I got only rudeness and denial out of the jerk I talked to about it. I sincerely hope they fix these problems for the next model as I will NOT buy another pair of the 210's, which is too bad, because the headphones sound GREAT in spite of the technical and quality issues. Hope my final set lasts longer than the other two did...

Ultrasone PRO 550 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones Review

Ultrasone PRO 550 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These headphones should fit right in between the $100 and $200 range. At the time they were introduced they sold for about $230.
These headphones support spacial cuing in the form of specially placed Mylar cones behind a metal barrier that also serves as a electromagnetic field barrier. Ultrasone claim that mechanism provides the head transfer cues needed to make the headphones sound more like a set of speakers.
While I didn't find the headphones sounded like a set of speakers, I do feel that sound is more natural and robust than with direct placement headphones since it is focused on the outer ear rather than directly on the eardrum. However, I didn't notice any less fatigue while listening than with any comparable set of headphones.
This is a set of cans that will make you notice things in your music that you didn't notice before. The soundstage is strong and present but not too pushy.
If you're looking for a comparable product at a lower price you might try the Grado SR60 headphones.
You really need a good headphone amp for use with these headphones to get the full dynamic range from them. There's a guy that sells some nice burr-brown portable amps from his ebay store that are inexpensive and work well with these cans.
As far as looks, this headset looks very large on your head but is very aesthetically pleasing if you like blue. If you don't like blue, just listen and try not to notice your reflection.
Pros:
* Very robust hardware.
* Detachable screw-in cable means less chance you'll have to return the headphones for repair after a lot of use due to cable detachment.
* Comes in a very nice zippered case with a spare set of ear pads, both straight and curly cords and a 1/8th" to 1/4" headphone plug adapter.
* Sound is very robust with deep lows and crisp highs.
* Very nice with bassy, bouncy music such as trance, downtempo, drum & bass, house.
* Nicely padded on the head and ears.
* Although the headset is quite large overall it can be folded in on itself for transport so it takes up much less room.
* The unique dark blue colour of this headset is very attractive and noticeable.
* The huge shiny silver logos on the cans are pretty neat too.
* Gold electroplated connectors all around.
* Generous, long, beefy cables.
Cons:
* Midrange is a little cramped if used directly with an iPod rather than going through a headphone amp.
* Ear fatigue is a little higher than with some other headphones (including other headphones in this set's line) due to higher output pressure.
* A bit heavy on the head.
* Good isolation from external noise (I use them on the subway).
* Connector cable plug is really long when paired with the adapter needed to use with a portable device so there's a risk of wrenching the headphone port on your sound source.
* Folding the headset up requires you to unscrew the headphone cable.
* Might be too bassy for discerning audiophiles who are critical about upper-mid to high end frequencies.
* For some reason the headphone case is designed to fit the headphones in their unfolded state, which makes the case much larger than necessary.

Sharkoon X-Tatic True 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Gaming Headset Review

Sharkoon X-Tatic True 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This headset rocks! I definitely took a chance on these despite not having seen any previous reviews or ratings, but it was worth it. I wanted to test it out for a few weeks before writing a review. Also, this is my first Sharkoon product.
Along with the headset itself, it includes
- optical cable
- "sound control unit" (your little magic black box where all cables run to)
- adapters for PC (comes with 5.1 analog for those w/o pc optical), 360, ps3
- detachable boom mic (it does flex to your preference)
- power supply (single cord which splits off to power your SCU and headset separately) Ex.) you can still disconnect the power to the SCU and still have power running to the headset by itself. The power supply comes with swappable heads. I guess this is if you go out of the country and want to use their foreign outlets.
It took me a little bit of time to figure out all these adapters, settings, and wires (there are a lot of wires.)
The Sound Control Unit (SCU) is where your optical, power supply and 9-pin headset connector come together. You can also adjust the general volume here, but I usually just use the volume adjust attached the the headset cord. There is a 5.1 analog output as another option for those PC users without an optical option. With two 9-pin headset jacks, a second person with the same headset may also listen in. Two Dolby options include Dolby Digital and Pro Logic. There are two included settings called Time-Delay and Dynamic Range Control located on the SCU.
Both of these passages taken directly from the manual. Either setting can be turned on or off.
"Time-Delay - The Time-Delay function allows to define a time delay for the sound reproduction for each speaker. Thus a spacious playback of the audio signal can be achieved. Note that increasing the delay too much may cause unnatural results."

"Dynamic Range Control - Dynamic Range control limits the dynamic, decreasing the level differences between loud and quiet passages in the Dolby Digital 5.1 signal thus balancing the effect of loudness."Other nice features include a volume adjuster which is attached the headset cord. The X-tatic logo on the headset AND also the attached volume adjuster light up. Looks good to me! The volume is indicated by the different colors lighted up on the volume adjuster - ranging from green (very low) to red (very high). The sound volume from each speaker can also be adjusted individually. So say you're sniping and you want to hear even more of the sounds behind you. You can "up" the volume on the rear speakers to do just that. Or you might be looking to get more "boom" from your sounds. You can increase the bass volume while keeping the other speakers at their current volume.
There is a switch to turn off your voice. You can't hear your own voice while speaking, but I prefer it that way. Voice volume from other people can also be adjusted independently from game volume. So when I hear a lobby full of annoying kids, I lower the voice volume and just "up" my awesome game volume. Bliss.
Comfort 5/5 - Took a night of gameplay to "break-in", so now it fits comfortably. Good padding so it sits well on your head. The ear cups can be tilted and also swivel to match your unique head shape (a BIG plus for me.) I can wear these 4-5 hours easy.
Sound 5/5 - Amazing! Playing MW2 and GOW2 is a whole new experience now! Sounds I never knew existed in these games gave me a whole new appreciation! Distant gunfire, rustling of bushes and grass around me, and even slight downpour can be heard. With that said, the 5.1 directionality will add a whole new dimension to your gameplay. For me, there is a clear distinction between if gunfire is coming from front, rear, front left, rear right, etc. Footsteps come in loud and clear. This keeps me more aware of my surroundings. Hurray for situational awareness!
Price 4/5 - It is quite the steep investment for me at $159.99, even with the free shipping from Amazon (love ya for that Amazon!) I did have to think twice before my purchase solely because the price. Now that I look back on it, it was the right move.
Overall, this headset definitely meets my expectations. It looks good and has some surprisingly cool features. Maybe if they could fix the amount of wires, but I guess that what it takes to work on the pc, 360, and ps3.
Good Hunting!

Philips HE591 Surround Sound Earbuds (Black) Review

Philips HE591 Surround Sound Earbuds (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
NOTE: I've NOW had the HE591's now for almost two years and just had to replace my original pair because of a short. Considering I used them 3-4 days a week cutting grass, painting, etc., I think that is great! My new pair has the newer case, and I actually like it better than the old wrap-around one, and I noticed that the cord is thicker now, so maybe this set will last even longer. I would like to mention a negative, at least it could be perceived as a negative by some.... The music sounds so much better than with other ear buds, that I am often tempted to play the music louder, so one needs to discipline themselves with the volume. Actually, I find I can usually play my iPod, or other devices, at a lower volume and still have a great sound, so maybe these might be just the thing to have for children to use (and, of course, limiting the volume on their device, too). When I originally bought these I had the 60 GB Photo iPod and now I have the 80 GB one. The sound is even better on the newer iPod. My opinion is still high on these, even though I occasionally try to use the Shure and xTreme buds. In fact, I put those $99 Shure ones on just a week or so ago, and before I had even left the room, I took them off and put on the HE591's. Phillips has come-out with a new container for them, and it's OK, but that's not the real issue. No matter what I use, I go back to the HE591 (black)/592 (white). I've only had one problem with using them, a slight tenderness in my ears canal one time, but I turned the buds 30 degrees in my ear and everything was fine. And, now, I don't even have to do that. What follows is my original review.
Do yourself a favor and try these before forking over $100.00 on something that has great highs, but no lows... and what's really amazing is the the equalizer on my iPods actually do something with the HE591's. Here's my original review....
In reading the reviews of this product, I am having to ask myself, "Are they using the same earbuds that I'm using?" because I didn't have the issues that others have had. In fact, I've spent well over $500.00 trying to find a decent sounding pair of earbuds, and the Phillips HE591's give me exactly what I am wanting.
Before going any further, though, let me say, I'm an older reviewer, (age 56) who early in life really appreciated the sound of a good set of headphones. To put everything in perspective, I judge anything I put into my ears on these two sets of KOSS headphones: 1) the KOSS HV1A+, a lightweight set with foam cushions on the ear sets that allow one to hear good sound and still hear if someone in the room is calling to you, and 2) the KOSS PRO4AA, a heavy, recording studio-type of pair with air cushions around the ear sets that along with a heavy-duty spring on the headphones keeps out all sound and turns your ears blue after 20 minutes of using them. The HV1A+ has, what I thought, a good sound. The PRO4AA a great sound.
Now that I've said all of that to put things into perspective, what the hell does that have to do with these earbuds? EVERYTHING! Because if the sound isn't good, why bother? And, because I've used mine with iPods, which I thought didn't have that great of a sound to begin with, I had sort of lowered my expectations of what kind of quality in sound I could get with my iPod. Lower them no more. The Philips HE591 has everything I wanted in an earbud for my iPod. It gives me the highs, the lows, and sort of an ambiance of background sound, too, that makes the music come through GREAT. And, as if I might be stretching things a bit, when you go to use the equalizer function on your iPod, the sound actually, and very noticeably, varies, like it should.
What other earbuds have I used before the Philips HE591:
Xtreme Mac IPD-FSE00FS1, which you can find between $99 and $150.00. These give great high sounds, and you realize that there were notes and instruments being played that you hadn't heard before. The low sounds, though, were under-represented. The equalizer settings on the iPod (my current one is the 60GB Video unit, but I also have the 60 GB Photo one) didn't seem to change the sound much.
Shure E2c, which you can find between $99 and $125.00. These also gave me great high sounds, like the Xtreme Mac, and the equalizer settings varied more, but it, also, had issues with producing the low sounds.
Sony earbuds. I tried several versions from $20 to $49.00, with the $29 version and the $49 version seemingly having the same sound. I don't have the material on these, but the best ones cost around $29.00, or so, at Wal-mart. They had a great bass sound, but not much treble. The equalizer setting didn't make it vary much.
Now, I know I don't have the ears of a 20 year old, but I do have "perfect" pitch, and I know sound: my receiver unit at home is a Denon AVR-4802R. I like my DVD DTS sound system at home with it's 7 channel sound (counting the subwoofer) that I've augmented with two side channels, and I like the 5-channel DVD DTS sound in my car.
The Philips HE591 is not only a better buy, but to me, it gives you a better sound.
Other aspects of it:
The primary cord is heavy, but after the split the cords for the earpieces are normal in size. The earbuds come with two sets of rubber ear pieces. They look the same size, but one may be smaller. Whatever the case, it is nice to have an extra set. The ear pieces have a hard extension that you can use to set the earbuds into your ears.
The cords for the earpieces are of different length, so it easier to deal with if you wear your device on one of your hips.
The case is rubberized and seems less clumbersome than some units, and about as easy to use as the Shure case. The Xtreme Mac case will allow you to either roll-it-un and wrap it, or just roll-it-up and tuck it in, which wasn't too bad of an idea.
All-in-all, I am elated to have found the Philips earbuds, and I hope that anyone who tries them will be as satisfied as I am.
On a sad note, though, having done all of this listening, I am not as enamoured with my KOSS HV1A+ headphones as I used to be.They still let me listen to much and hear what's going on in the room (someone had an issue with that with the Philips, but I didn't), but the HV1A's just didn't have the crispness of the Philips earbuds, so I'm saddened that I've now lowered that KOSS unit off of its pedestal.
At a price of $19 to $29, these are a bargain, and it comes in white as model HE592

Logitech G35 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Headset Review

Logitech G35 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These headphones are a lot of fun.
I'm not a gamer - can't play many games because I get dizzy, but I am sort of a collector of headphones. Frankly, I expected these to be awful and was more than pleasantly surprised to find that they are really quite good.
OK, so they look like some kind of boy toy science fiction gizmo. For me, I could do without all the buttons. But having a volume button on the headphone and a mute for the mic is very useful.
Most headphones depend upon the right combination of source and headphone to get a good sound. If you plug most high end headphones directly into your ipod or computer soundcard the sound quality is atrocious. The right mate of source and sound can mean that the right $20 headphone in your ipod can give surprisingly good sound if it is a good match.
The good (and the bad) of a USB headset is that it bypasses the amp in your computer soundcard. Instead, the digital to audio processing occurs through USB. This approach can allow very high quality sound, and in the case of this headset, it succeeds.
As to sound quality. I am impressed with the surround sound where normally I find surround unbearably processed and artificial, the software does a good job. With the surround sound turned off, and these headphones are in pure stereo mode, forget it, it's awful. But that isn't what these headphones are for. Bass is excellent with good low extension and not even the slightest touch of boominess. Artifical bass enhancement is one of the things I hate about most processed sound, and I was delighted to find that none was present. Logitech is to be commended for making that choice in the design because most people equate sloppy boomy bass with high quality (think car stereo woofer).
The mid range is outstanding. That's where the sound really excels. I have a few very high end headphones where the midrange is weak. With these headphones subtleties of tone and shading in human voices are easy to hear.
The high end of the sound spectrum is the weakness of the sound signature. Lost highs are the big price for processed sound. Imagine a bell ringing. After the bell rings the sound hangs in the air and slowly fades. When the highest highs are lost, and the sound is processed, the sound gets artifically cut off and the "air" is gone from the sound. At the present state of technology this seems to be unavoidable in all processed sound. The good news with this headset is that this loss of highs is not too horribly bad. I could listen to music (which is not what these are for) and it was not too distracting. The offset was the beautiful mids and the realistic sound stage.
Listening to movies, other than gaming, is where this headset excels. This is where location of sound can make a huge difference, and the ambiant sounds contribute to the experience. Watching a movie with these headset while sitting right in front of my computer screen is immersive and exciting. I can imagine that in games, where location of sounds is critical, that these would greatly enhance the experience and give the player an extra edge.
Finally, they are pretty comfortable. The choice of cushioning is very appreciated.
My partner and I both want to use them. I was given these to review but I might have to buy another set. The price, when you consider that it includes the digital audio converter and amplification, is very reasonable for a headset of this quality.

These headphones replaced a pair of Sennsenheiser headphones that I bought about 3 years ago. So far these are working just fine. I like that they only turn on when you have them on. The sound quality is very good. I also like that once they are fully charged the charging light turns off. At one end of my house i get a little interference that i didn't get with my other headphones. But that is not a major problem. One thing is they could be a little tighter and i don't see any way to adjust that. I would definitely recommend them.

I have been looking for a wirelss headset that I can use for HDTV watching at night. Previously I had tried the Sony 900MHz wireless headphones and the results were poor; hissing and popping and dropped sound. They just weren't worth the money.
I can't speak for the quality of an analog connection, as I am using these with the supplied optical digital connecting cable. With that I have excellent sound and the headphones worked right out of the box. I can walk several rooms away with no loss of signal or sound quality.
I would buy these again.

Sony MDR-IF540RK Wireless Headphone System with Rechargeable Battery Review

Sony MDR-IF540RK Wireless Headphone System with Rechargeable Battery
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love these headphones. I use them at night in bed when my girlfriend is sleeping and she doesn't hear a thing. The sound is surprisingly great and the headphones are very comfortable. The line of sight is flexible - so you can be off to the side and still have reception. The headphones don't look or feel cheap, are not too heavy and the transmitter base looks really sleek. The batteries last a long time before recharging and all you have to do to turn them on is put them on and they turn off as soon as you take them off - very cool feature. The price is great too considering the quality and features - shop around and you'll find better prices.
The extra features of these headphones I use on occasion because they work best for specific content: The SRS surround sound works great with digital music and movies that feature surround sound. The vibration "rumble" function works great with dance and hip-hop music, movies with lots of sound effects and explosions (like Stars Wars) and video games.
One note: the sound will be as good as the source. To reduce background hiss - turn up the source audio and not the headphones volume. Meaning, if its connected to your stereo or TV - it will work sort of as an amp, so turn up the volume there first before raising the volume too high on the headphones. I have no problems with background hiss.Pros:
- sound great (clear, loud, good bass and treble)
- comfortable
- Infrared = no tuning or inteference (within line of sight)
- SRS surround sound and bass vibration function (nice extras)
- easy on/off
Cons:
- Infrared is short range
- line of sight (lose signal quality if base view is obstructed)
- kinda bulky looking (the looks aren't for everyone)
Overall: For the price, features, quality of sound and looks there's no better choice if you're looking for short-range wireless headphones.

Sharkoon X-Tatic SP Gaming Headset Review

Sharkoon X-Tatic SP Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When i started to shop around for a gaming headset, i mostly heard about two main brands: Turtle Beach and Triton. Many people say that you can't go wrong with either. But, while shopping around, I came across Sharkoon. There really isn't much online in regards to this headset, so i figured i would check out their higher-end headset. (The X-Tatic 5.1 with surround sound) This headset received fantastic reviews across the boards. I figured if the company made quality headsets, i would check out the x-tatic sp...even without any reviews online. And i am not disappointed.
What made me reluctant to go with the Turtle Beach PX21 headset is how it looked. It was not very sexy. The Triton AX-180 looked nice, but it was $80. Since the x-tatic sp was $10 cheaper, i figured i would check them out. Not only is the sound excellent and crisp, but the headset is extremely comfortable and is continuously comfortable for long periods of time (which is important for a gaming headset). My brother has the Triton AXPROs and he loved this headset. (for those of you who don't know, the AXPROs have surround sound and are the top of the line Tritons) Why spend more than double the money to get surround sound when you can get a great sounding headset at this price range? And, for those of you who doubt the price of a stereo gaming headset, it is totally worth the price. I have never used one before while gaming...and it makes a total difference. People aren't lying when they say they hear things they didn't hear before. Its true! When you run by trees/brush you hear the rustle as you run by. You hear footsteps. Gun fire and other sounds help you locate where the shots are being fired so you can find the enemy. Even without a 5.1 surround sound headset (which really only refers to the amount of speakers in the ear cup to produce that surround sound feeling) you hear the sounds as if you were in the middle of the action. Shooting games just feel like they were made to be played with a headset like this.
So, if you are in the market for a stereo gaming headset, i can't knock the Turtle Beachs or Tritons, but i can definitely say that these would not disappoint. Great sound quality and comfortability...all you need in a gaming headset!

Sony RK-G138 Audio Connecting Cable for Headphone Extension (3 meters) Review

Sony RK-G138 Audio Connecting Cable for Headphone Extension (3 meters)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had previously owned a different brand of headphone/speaker extension cable for my computer speaker system and it worked well for about 6 months. After that, the female connector started getting loose, and I would only hear sound coming out of the left channel unless I wiggled the connector around to 'fix' the problem. I would have to repeat this process almost every day, and it started to annoy me to no end.
Alas, I came across this Sony brand extension cable, and I thought I'd give it shot.
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard a 'click' noise when I connected my speakers to the extension cord, a very snug fit. It gave me the sense of ease I was looking for - I knew that I didn't have to worry about a bad connection again.
So far, I've noticed better sound quality coming out of my speakers than before (most likely due to the fact my older extension cable was junk), and I have yet to worry about a bad connection/poor sound quality. It feels good to have my speaker system sounding right again.
BOTTOM LINE - great solution for extending the distance for your headphones or computer speaker system! Gold plated connectors, 2.5mm to 6.3mm adapter, Sony-quality, 9.8', good stuff :)

Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics Review

Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm always on a search for the best headphones and have tried many with varying results, all the way up to premium $300 sets. I cannot tolerate at all any type of in-ear headphone that is simply a plastic, hard ear bud, they are all far too large and uncomfortable (and generally lacking in sound quality as well) but I'm also not enough of an audiophile to really need the premium ones. My previous favorite set of headphones was the Shure E3C, which gave a great balance of comfort, sound quality and price. These go one better by offering even better comfort, stability and a lower price to boot.
Opening the box was a nice surprise...if like me you are tried of plastic that requires box cutters to get into you will appreciate the professional, quality packaging of the Philips SHE9850 which comes in a solid cardboard box that is easy to open and remove the components from. In addition to the headphones, you get 3 sizes of silicon ear buds and one set of memory foam sleeves. Also a clip for the cord, basic instructions and a nice metal carrying case. The case is a bit larger and heavier than most, but it is well designed, slides open easily and includes a spot to carry an extra set of ear buds. This is a welcome feature if like me you change them according to use. I prefer silicon for basic use, but the memory foam for more active use to stay in place better.
I was very pleased with the comfort and stability of these headphones. They are slightly angled to better insert into the ear canal and once in, I found they stayed very solidly in place when I moved around. I have very small ears, and often have comfort issues, these were some of the best I've tried so far.
Sound quality I found to be excellent. A little more response at the lower ranges would have improved it a bit, but overall I would rate them at least as good as the Shure's, and better for a lot of my music. The sound is very full and rich, and could compare with some headphones in the $200+ range. Noise reduction as well was excellent. These definitely are not headphones to wear if you need to hear any peripheral noise! I could barely hear my very noisy clothes washer while wearing these, which is the best test I could do without going on a plane trip.
Overall, these are the best headphones I've used at this price, and I'd recommend them highly. The only thing I wish it had was a mute button, but I've not yet seen a decent set of headphones that has one, so have just come to accept that it's not something easy to do reliably.

Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics feature a high-definition transducer that produces an accurate audio reproduction. The 15-degree tilt acoustic design adjusts the angle of the speaker tube and ear bud to individual ear canal shapes. The earbud sleeves are made from slow recovery foam which is a comfortable alternative to rubber ear caps. Slow foam is compressed between the fingers before being inserted into your ear canal. After the earphone is held in place for a few seconds, the slow-recovery foam expands for a secure, tight fit and creates an excellent seal from ambient noise that enables you to listen to your music at a lower volume. These headphones are made with Philips iLab technology to ensure greater output from lower frequencies and help create a more balanced and crisp sound. The headphone body is made of soft flexi-grip material that protects the cable connection from damage that occurs from repeated bending of the headphone body. These headphones have a metal housing that shields them from unnecessary vibration for accurate sound transmission, resulting in smooth bass response and clear mid-to-high range tones. This package also includes a metal carrying case with a storage compartment for the foam sleeves and a cable bank which provides an easy solution for neat cable winding and headphone storage. The hard case exterior also provides additional protection for the headphones while not in use.

Ultrasone HFI-580 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones Review

Ultrasone HFI-580 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well the Ultrasone HFI-580's came in today. Guess this is a good as place as any to write my opinion. They sounded so good I had to share. :)
First impression of them. They're very meaty, much meatier than the inexpensive Koss UR-15C I was using prior. (A $20 pair of headphones (when I bought them).) The Koss don't sound "bad" per-se, especially since they've been through multi-hundred hours of burn-in, and have settled in to sound as good as they can.
The looks are very bold, and they look very impressive close up. They may be targeted towards the more edgier crowd, as they're very "in-your-face" and don't have as a muted appearance as some other higher-end phones. Could be good or bad on your point of view, personally I really like it.
Now, the sound. Since comparing it to the Koss is a travesty in and of itself (as it utterly dominates them), my other comparison comes from Sony MDR-710 LP ($70 when I bought them, Ultraportable supra-aural headphones. Owned for going on 2 years.)
Now the Sony's sound pretty darn good, but they are supra-aural versus the Ultrasone and Koss which are circum-aural. The Sony are the reason I decided to purchase these Ultrasone, because they really opened up how a decent pair of headphones can really change the way you listen to things. I have also owned a great many cheap earbuds and circum-aural headphones in my life($5 - 10), so I know how the sound stacks up to cheapy's too.
Being circum-aural has advantages because of attenuation of outside noise. I first thought about gushing about how awesome they sound, but then I decided some actual thought out impressions would be more helpful. :) It's hard to describe since I'm not in the habit of reviewing headphones, so I don't know all of the terms one uses to describe the nuances of headphones to another person, but here it goes.
The sound is very "rich" compared to my other headphones I own, I don't know how to put it, there is more detail and it just sounds "fuller". I intentionally picked tracks I had listened to many times, because I knew how they sounded pretty well from my other pairs. I was picking up pitch shifts in notes and sounds that were previously undetectable. It just seems like it covers a much broader range of sound and the sound is fantastic. I listened both to CD music, and mp3's. I didn't have any DVD audio to test... other than DVD movies.
Bass. As I said the bass notes are very important to me. They actually tie the Sony MDR-710 here, you'd be surprised at how bassy those little Sony's are, and I might go so far as to say they actually have more bass than the Ultrasones. But again, it just seemed like the Ultrasone's convey more detail in bass, probably due to being more isolated from the circum-aural design. (Keep in mind the Sony's have about 40 hours of burn-in, and the Ultrasone's are out of the box.)
On DVD's, again I was picking up more detail. The sound of peoples clothes as they rubbed together was one thing that stuck out. Footsteps, breathing, just overall much more sound detail. I was pretty impressed overall, I watched Matrix Reloaded to test the action scenes. (Say what you want about the movie itself but the action scenes are incredible.)
Gaming. Well what better game to test on than GTA-IV since it just came out. (I chose the 360 to test on because my PC although using optical out to my receiver does not output 5.1 from the optical out.) I figured here is where the much touted "S-Logic" feature pattented by Ultrasone would finally show it's colors. It just sounded like a really good pair of stereo headphones, although I haven't ever listened to a pair of "true" 5.1's (3 speakers & sub in each ear cup). But from what I read, most 5.1 headphones can't deliver other than LTB. I did actually shop around for 5.1 headphones but I didn't find any with the right combination of features and aesthetics that appealed to me (USB-based is automatic disqualification for me).
So maybe S-Logic does work, this is something I will just have to give more than 30 minutes to. I did actually stand stationary and close my eyes and spin the control stick until I was unsure of my position, then slowly started rotating, detecting if sound was coming from left or right is easy as it only plays in one ear, but as it came to front to back, I did manage to accurately pick if the source was coming from in front of me or behind me 3/3 times. This is only a rough test and 3/3 could have just been luck, but I didn't spend much more time testing this.
Ultrasone claims you can achieve the same level of listening volume with lower decibles, due to their S-Logic off-center drivers, this was something I didn't believe and was skeptical of. Turns out it is true and then some, I actually had to turn the volume down a bit from what I usually have it set it.
Overall I am very impressed and think it was money well spent. They won't be replacing the Sony as those are so compact when they fold up and can slip into a pocket easily. Rather they will compliment them mainly for home use and some mixing.

Motorola Motorokr S9-HD Bluetooth Stereo Headset (Black) Review

Motorola Motorokr S9-HD Bluetooth Stereo Headset (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start of by telling my little headache with this product. I purchased it as a combo with the motorola bluetooth adapter for ipod only to come to the horrible truth that the transmitter did not worked with my ipod touch 2nd gen. I had to go back and buy the sony TMR-BT8iP (Black) adapter. This definitely fixed the problem for $50 more. Now the good one. I heard from a friend that it was possible to use to head set with my computer to stream music and use any VoIP application like skype. I again started the search in Amazon and found a USB Bluetooth adapter for $5! And guess what? It worked perfectly. I originally purchased this product because I got tired of breaking regular headphones in my ipod like if there where $1 a piece. Problem solved. No more cables tangled in the weights at the gym and an extra gift, a head seat for my VoIP calls. The sound is amazing. And yes like other reviews said they are only one size fits some. I wear a size 7 3/8 hat and these headphones fit perfectly on me. I hope that you find these review helpful.

Ultrasone HFI-450 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones - Black Review

Ultrasone HFI-450 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bear in mind this is a first impression after getting them and testing them out, and I paid considerably less than the current $87.
I picked these up to use as a FOH monitor headset. All I was looking for was reasonable quality and portability. I've just tested them out and was pleasantly surprised.
Pros: relatively inexpensive, Folding and rotating circum-aural (around the ear) cups, Sturdy construction, flat audio response, good isolating fit.
Cons: isolating fit is leather (maybe fake leather, I'm not sure) so it does get a bit sweaty in there. And the rugged construction means they're a bit on the heavy side.
I have a few songs I listen to just to check out sound systems and here's what I found. One of the songs has a 13khz hiss that these headphones recreated accurately, another song has a 35hz pedal tone that runs through most of the song. Again these headphones did just fine (I've worked with PA systems that can't do that.
I tried to test they're claim to 3-D sound, even to the extent of listening to some binaural recordings from the FreeSoundProject. I can't say as I hear any difference than with the pair of Sony MDR-CD180s I had to compare them to.
Overall these headphones are great at playing back just what you put into them, and nothing else. That's just what I want, headphones that don't color the sound with their own EQ curve. They're sturdy, compact when folded, and priced just about right for a cheapskate like me. I'm not going to wear them for an 8 hour flight, but I'll grab them every time I'm doing a gig.
I'd be happy to buy them again.
