Polk Audio Monitor 50 2-Way Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black) Review

Let me start by saying that I was looking for a pair of speakers to replace my Bose 701's. I love my Bose, but I felt that they were lacking in clarity on the higher end of the sound spectrum. So I decided to make them the front speakers of my home theater system, where the lack of high end sound clarity isn't as noticeable as when you are just sitting down listening to your favorite CD's. After much research I went to my local electronics store with a particular speaker in mind. I had decided on the Infinity Primus250. I was pleased with the highs that the Infinity's delivered, but before leaving I decided to listen to the Polk Monitor 50's because they were in the same price range and I know that Polk makes a quality product. After alternating listening to both speakers with a variety of music styles I was torn. Both speakers would have been a welcome addition to any home system, but the Polk speakers seemed to offer just a little more clarity on the higher end. The vocals and instumentation of the music seemed just a bit more alive with the Polks. I was right. When I got them home and hooked them up they sounded as good as they did in the store. So although I would not have been wrong if I had bought the Infinity's, I'm glad that I decided on the Polks. I hope this review has been helpful.

Have a pair of these along with a Infinity PC350 center channel and 4 CS60 surrounds, with an Onkyo SR505 receiver. Movies have never been clearer, watching movies I know by heart I now hear a LOT of new sounds. My previous setup wasn't cheap, just a bit old, and it doesn't even compare.
Music is very nice also. I don't have a powered sub hooked up yet but I am not one for over the top bass anyway. The 362s put out an adequate bass, but certainly nothing overpowering.
All in all, can't be beat for the price point.

Infinity Reference 8-Inch 1000-watt High-Performance Subwoofer (Single Voice Coil) Review

I own a 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder. I recently changed the stock system to the Infinity Reference 6020CS component speaker with the Reference 475a amp and a nice Kenwood head unit. The new speakers sounded good, but lacked clarity below 80 Hz and trying to push the low end through them distorted the sound. I knew I needed a subwoofer, but since the Spyder has only two seats and almost no storage space, I had great difficulty finding one.
I bought this speaker because it was 8" and would match my main speaker since they are both Reference series. I had to build my own sealed enclosure due to the limited space available. I powered it with 150W from the 475a amp. Once connected the sub changed how my entire system worked and sounded.
I set the crossovers to 80 Hz and now the main speakers sing. I can't distort the system even when the volume is loud enough to hurt my ears. The sub adds a tight, punchy low end. I've heard bass lines that I never heard before in songs that I've listened to for years.
I expected that some of the sub-harmonic frequencies would not be handled as well since it is a small speaker. Typically 12" subs are used for booming bass. I was wrong. This sub handled them more than adequately.
If you are trying to rattle your windows, this speaker may do the job, but you should probably go with a larger one. If you want an accurate sonic reproduction with a fast response and clear, crisp bass, this is your speaker. My car now sounds better than most home systems.
A++
